Ötzi – The man from the ice

The original touring exhibition about the most famous glacier mummy in the world. Numerous exciting details to discover.

MuseumsPartner exclusively organises this unique exhibition on behalf of the South Tyrolean state government. It always triggers great excitement amongst visitors and has been hosted in numerous countries in the past: Austria, Italy, Spain, Japan, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland and Russia.

It was the archaeological sensation of the year: In autumn 1991 a German couple discovered a mummified body on a glacier in the Ötztaler Alps. Scientists soon ascertained: The man from the ice was the oldest mummy in the world.

For over 5,000 years “Ötzi” lay preserved in the glacial ice and with him valuable artefacts that gave an indication of his age and life.

The South Tyrolean Museum of Archaeology presents around the globe with the Ötzi touring exhibition.  Encompassing an area of approx. 200 m2, the exhibition presents reproductions of the equipment items and clothing of the man from the ice because the originals – including Ötzi himself – lie safely preserved in the archaeological museum in Bolzano.

Visitors to the exhibition can however take a look at the “real” Ötzi, via a “live” webcam in Bolzano.
