Japan

Japan: When Flowers Speak takes visitors on an immersive journey through time, exploring Japan’s rich history from the 7th century until today. The exhibition illustrates that flowers in Japanese history are not merely decorative motifs, but active cultural agents used to organize power, belief and daily life.

By tracing five specific flowers across rituals, politics and art, the experience reveals that cultural meaning is not inherent in nature, but constructed and stabilized over time. Visitors will delve into Japan’s cultural treasure trove of symbolism, ceremony and artistic expression. Moving from imperial legitimacy to cultural beauty, visitors will explore how flowers function as interfaces between the natural and the human-made worlds.

Japan: When Flowers Speak is curated by Dr. Morgan Pitelka. The exhibition concept continues to evolve, the curatorial narrative and the spatial design are currently being developed in parallel. More information coming soon — stay updated.
